A LOCAL group of horse riders and helpers has celebrated 40 years of community-driven action and achievements at an anniversary dinner and awards night at its club rooms in December.

Founded in 1985, Lancefield Equestrian Group Inc (LEG), formerly known as Romsey and District Adult Riders marked the occasion to specifically acknowledge many members who have contributed to providing a friendly environment for riders of all levels to socialise and participate in a variety of activities and events.

In its early years, riders saddled up at various members’ properties, but soon they moved to the Lancefield Recreation Reserve.

Other life members, who have been founding members and contributed devotedly are Roger Lavelle, Alan Ward and Dianne Schmidt.

Mr Lavelle was thrilled to present the Roger Lavelle Trophy to Joe Dalbin, and his wife Joy was also acknowledged for helping at working bees, competitions, and local rallies.

Gifts were presented to instructors Chris Pearce, Lisa Bray and Jenny Crowley for running clinics throughout the year, helping members gain skills and confidence.

“They go over and above what they are required to do, and they are available and flexible,” Mrs Lavelle said.

“They come every fourth Wednesday and every second Sunday.

“Holly Stansfield-Smith invited us to participtate in clinics at Salisbury Indoor arena trhoughtout the year (in addition to the regular clinics).”

“Our treasurer Dianne Schmidt also does an amazing job, and she has yet to come and get her present,” Mrs Lavelle said.
