ROMSEY local, Cassy Borthwick was elected as the new Macedon Ranges Shire Council Mayor last Tuesday.
Cr Borthwick will serve as mayor for the next couple of months until November, when a new Mayor is elected for the 12-month period.
It’s in accordance with Local Government Act 2020 that although councillors will sit for four years, Victorian councils elect a mayor annually from the elected councillors.
Mayor Borthwick said she was honoured to have the confidence of her fellow councillors and grateful for the opportunity to serve the community.
“It’s not often I’m lost for words,” Cr Borthwick said.
“I am honoured to have the confidence of my fellow councillors and to serve as Mayor of Macedon Ranges Shire Council.”
“In recent days, I have been reminded that local government is at its best when it remains close to its community. Through conversations with residents, we continue to learn from their experiences, concerns and aspirations.”
It comes after the former Mayor, councillor Kate Kendall, resigned from the position, to shift her focus towards the November state election.
Lancefield local Councillor Daniel Young was also elected Deputy Mayor and will serve in the role until the next Mayoral election in November.
