THE Seymour and Shepparton lines are set to benefit from more services announced by the State Government on Thursday.
The new services are part of an additional 3500 services, with more than 400 extra weekly train services starting from Sunday, August 23.
On the Shepparton line, there will be an uplift to nine return services every weekday and five return services each Saturday and Sunday following the Shepparton line upgrade.
On the Seymour line, there will be trains every hour on Saturday and Sunday.
On the nearby Craigieburn line, there will be 115 new weekly services, with trains every 20 minutes or better from morning until midnight seven days a week, while 77 weekly services will also be provided at the Upfield line.
The new services, the State Government say, is due to the Metro Tunnel creating more capacity.
Minister for Public Transport, Vicki Ward, said it was a good result for Victorians.
“More trains on the timetable means less time waiting on the platform and more time to enjoy your destination, whether it’s getting home, going to the footy, hanging out at the beach, or heading to work,” she said.
State Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, said the patience was appreciated from rural train line users.
“We appreciate Shepparton line users’ patience whilst works were underway on the Shepparton line to make way for these additional services,” she said.
“More trains on the timetable means less time waiting on the platform and more time to enjoy your destination, whether it’s getting home, going to the footy, or heading to work.”
