BROADFORD struggled through its first trip to Queen Elizabeth Oval as Sandhurst reminded the Kangaroos just how far they have to go as it finds its feet in the Bendigo Football Netball League.

However, there were some little wins throughout the afternoon, as the Kangaroos were competitive in patches.

Sandhurst was determined to put through a big score in the first quarter as it recorded seven goals from 12 scoring shots to open up a 47-point lead at the first change.

The Kangaroos defended well in the second quarter despite the gulf in class and restricted the Dragons to just three goals for the term. While the Kangaroos didn’t score themselves, they would have been happy with their efforts as the Dragons led 69-0 at the main break.

Sandhurst resumed business in the third quarter, but it was an inaccurate Dragons outfit who kicked seven goals from 15 shots, with the margin 119 points at the final change.

There were some positives in the last quarter as Broadford kicked two goals in the last term, with Rhys Carman and Adam Miles getting the Kangaroos on the board, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Sandhurst from winning by 158 points, 25.20 (170) to 2.0 (12).

Oliver Lubeck worked hard, with Bryce Fleming, Jay Eager, Sebastian Morris, Taiten Thomas and Miles also named in the best.

Broadford’s reserves kicked its first goal of the season in a 119-point loss, while the under 18s won a quarter despite losing by 96 points to the Dragons.
