SEYMOUR Police Station has been committed to helping people with disabilities.

For its services, the police station has received an award from the Office of the Public Advocate in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the Independent Third Person (ITP) Program.

The honour acknowledges the station’s “ongoing commitment and unwavering support for people with disabilities and those experiencing mental illness within our community.”
Acting Senior Sergeant Joel Prathipaty said the police station uses the ITP volunteers’ services to help people with disabilities.

“Like, for example, if we get any person in custody or witnesses that are underage or have some sort of impairment, or a person with disability and they need assistance, we contact the ITP service, and we get volunteers and we use their services a lot. We were nominated for our service to the community.

“It has been going on for forever. But to get an award for the recognition is very special because it reassures that we are on the right path, building that trust and confidence in the community. It’s (the award) a great honour and it goes to show that our members’ services are commendable.

“We thank all our staff for their continued dedication to inclusive, compassionate policing and community support.”
