THE Kilmore Bowls Club held their annual Kilmore Community Bank Men’s Open Fours Tournament on Saturday with sixteen teams competing for $1600 in prize money.
Enthusiastic players from nearby clubs; Wallan, and Broadford, Seymour, Melton, Hurstbridge, Croydon, Seymour, Trentham, Whittlesea, Glenroy, Brunswick and Mt Cottrell registered to compete.
Over 64 players arrived to begin the day with a delicious breakfast prepared by Kilmore’s ladies bowlers and later lunch and afternoon tea.

Four rinks were used and the end game between Wallan and the Croydon/Brunswick composite was the last to finish, with the results in Wallan’s favour. Wallan Skip Troy Lehmann said: “It could have gone either way. It was a close game”.
The top three teams, Whittlesea, Melton and the Eskimos (a Mt Cottrell bowling club composite team) were promoted to the finals.
Since Whittlesea’s team scored the highest, they sat out the match between the Eskimos and Melton. Their game finished with a draw and another end was played to decide the winner.
Melton, the younger side played against Whittlesea in the final game to become outright winners with 6 shots to 4.
Harry Plias accepted the top prize of $1000 on behalf of his team and also acknowledged his fill in player, Greg Blackburn. “A massive thanks to the team we played with today. One of our players was out today fighting fires in Harcourt”.
The runners up team, Whittlesea were presented with $400 in prize money, and the best last team, Croydon received $200.
Whittlesea’s Skip Ray Jansen also thanked the organisers for a wonderful lunch and congratulated the winners.
A highlight of the day was the major number raffle as it featured a hundred opportunities to win prizes and the chance for its first drawn to win $400 in currency. Former Kilmore player, Shane Fitzgerald was the lucky winner.
Kilmore’s Umpire, Lesley Hodgson and the Bowls Whisperer Daniel Noonon said it was a great day: “A day full of fun, camaraderie, friendship, competitiveness and teamwork”.
