IS THE 2025 theme for Book Week, a yearly event held in Victorian schools to foster and encourage the love of reading and it’s facilitated by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA).
2025 is also a milestone year, Book Week has been celebrated for eighty years with events that inspire students and their teachers to have fun and dress up as their favourite story time characters.
At Kilmore Primary School the traditional book characters parade was held in the school’s stadium with family and community members invited along to see book character costumes.
There were winners to celebrate, as the Guess the Number of the Pages in the Stack prize was announced. Grade one student Coen’s guess came closest to the 2340 mark and Principal, Michael Nicolaides was the closest teachers guess.
Throughout the week, the school held a book fair and a competition for students to be the Judge a Book by its cover award, and five students and Teacher Kerry Trawn were the lucky winners drawn from a hat.
Mr Nicolaides enjoyed his first book week at Kilmore Primary School.
“Thank you to everyone who entered our competitions,” he said.
“These sorts of events are fun and that’s what schools all about so you can all look forward to more events.”
At St Mary’s Primary School in Lancefield the parade, at its mid-way point become a Flash Mob with staff and year 6 student performing the ‘Nutbush’.
At Wallan, Our Lady of the Way Catholic Primary School was filled with colour and creativity as their students proudly paraded their costumes and also enjoyed activities and competitions all encouraging students to share their love of reading and storytelling
