INLAND Rail Project Director Scott Anderson shines a light on the Inland Rail project and the current and upcoming Hamilton Street and Short Street intersection changes in Broadford.

The latest traffic changes are speed reductions around Hamilton Street, which is now a single lane, also known as a shuttle flow.

“As we work through the project, we will change the configuration,” he said.

“We’ll do a piece of work, then we’ll change it to move the traffic out of our way again, and then we’ll shift it back.”

Over the next month or so, Short Street will also see speed reductions and become a single lane and there will also be some detours to look out for.

One local site is finished, the Seymour-Avenel Road, and Wangaratta Station Precinct (Tranche one) was officially opened on May 27.

“We are doing whatever we can to get as much regional employment as we can,” he said.

“We have specialist trades for utilities and things like that, some of them come out of Melbourne, and we have a lot of people who have worked on Tranche one.

Mr Anderson said 80 per cent of the project is bridge and roadworks.

“We understand there are going to be disruptions,” he said.

“Please treat all our workers with respect, it’s important that they have a safe workplace.

“We’re expecting traffic impacts to dissipate in 2027, how early that is depends on the weather.

“If we are doing lots of earthworks, we will stop, we need to mitigate sentiment runoffs.

“We have to have a safe workplace. It gets really sloppy until it dries out.”
