THE City of Whittlesea will have a resolution to the council saga in Lalor Ward in August, with the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) settling on a date for a by-election.
Residents and ratepayers in the Lalor Ward will have to be enrolled by 4pm tomorrow to have their say after the original election was voided due to suspected voter fraud.
The VEC confirmed the by-election will be held by post.
Acting Electoral Commissioner Dana Fleming called on those in the Lalor Ward to ensure their details were correct.
“You must be correctly enrolled by the close of roll, which is 4 pm on Wednesday, May 21. As this is a postal election, it’s important to check your address details are correct,” Ms Fleming said.
“If you’re an Australian citizen living in Lalor Ward and you’ve recently turned 18 or moved, you can enrol or update your details online at vec.vic.gov.au/enrolment”
The incumbent candidate, Steven Kozmevski, was removed after irregular voting patterns saw a boost towards third-placed candidate Nicholas Hajichristou in a contest where Mr Kozmevski was elected by 39 votes over runner-up candidate Ellen McNaught.
With around 15,397 Victorians enrolled in the Lalor Ward, a resolution is now set for three months’ time.
The VEC will mail out packs to voters from Monday, July 13 to Thursday, July 17, with voting closed at 6 pm on Friday, August 1.
