THE Victorian Government has been urged to consider funding to duplicate Donnybrook Road and the flyover bridge over the Hume Freeway.

Liberal Member for Northern Victoria, Wendy Lovell, is insistent that the funding has to be guaranteed going forward in the 2025-26 Victorian State Budget, due to be released today, calling for prioritisation work on the project.

Ms Lovell claims that people are being ‘abandoned’, while insisting that the duplication gets started.

“Every time I meet with local residents, I can hear their frustration with the lack of progress turning to hopelessness, because the Allan Labor Government has abandoned the people of Kalkallo and Donnybrook,” she said.

“Major Road Projects Victoria has said it is doing detailed planning work, but the State Government has not allocated a single dollar to duplicating Donnybrook Road or the bridge over the Hume Fwy.

“The Minister for Roads and Road Safety must take immediate steps to prioritise the duplication of Donnybrook Road and the flyover bridge, and ensure the project is fully funded in the 2025-26 State Budget.”

Federal funding has already been committed to transform the road, with $125 million promised for the road thanks to Labor’s re-election into government earlier this month.
