IT was an unsuccessful weekend for Whittlesea’s women’s teams in the Northern Football Netball League competition.

Whittlesea had no response for a North Heidelberg team who waltzed into the Whittlesea Showgrounds and recorded a 48-point victory.

The Bulldogs got away to a decent start by scoring the only goal of the first term to lead 8-0, then added two more goals in the second term to increase their lead to 20 points by half time, leading 21-1.

Three goals in the third term meant the Bulldogs started to really add percentage as they led 43-1 at the final change, before adding one more goal in the final term to eventually win 7.7 (49) to 0.1 (1).

Eden Attard, Asha Close, Tayla Wood, Maddison Barker, Tara Jenner and Julie Pole were all named in the best for Whittlesea, which dropped to fourth.

Laurimar were no match for Diamond Creek Women’s 2 in its first game in third division, losing by 102 points.

The Demons kicked three goals in the first term from 11 scoring shots to take a 26-point lead at the first break, and continued to be ruthless in the second term, kicking a further four goals to lead by 53 points.

Laurimar tightened up defensively in the third term, restricting Diamond Creek to two goals as it led 69-0 at the final change, but five goals in the final term meant that the margin stretched beyond 100 points, with Diamond Creek winning 14.18 (102) to 0.0 (0).

Emma Taylor, Savannah Brand, Amanda Neary, Rachel Chettle, Gabrielle Donald and Cobey Hadley were all named in the best for Laurimar.

South Morang were unable to hold on to a lead it held for the balance of the day as they played out a draw at Darebin.

The Lions made a bright start at AH Capp Reserve, kicking two of the first three goals of the day to lead by 10 points at the first change, 16-6.

Both teams knuckled down defensively in the second term, with just one goal between the two as the game remained on a knife’s edge at the main break, with the Lions maintaining an eight-point lead, 22-14.

The third quarter was a scrap as the Lions looked to put the game away but could only record one behind as they led 23-14 at the final change.

The Falcons made their move in the last term, kicking two goals to hit the front, but right on the siren, South Morang found a way to split the points, with both teams kicking 4.5 (29) apiece.

Abbey Quirk, Mikayla Bennett, Hailey Cordova, Rhianna Bennett, Chloe Thompson and Ella Pinney were all named in the best for the Lions.
