KILMORE have made it two from two in the Northern Football Netball League division three women’s competition with a convincing 87-point win away from home against Whittlesea.
After a 120-point win against Montmorency 2 to open their season last week, the Blues weren’t intent on letting their standards slip at the Whittlesea Showgrounds and burst out of the blocks leading by 27 points at the first change after kicking four goals to nil.
The Blues continued on their march in the second term and kicked another four goals.
Chiara Nardo was providing plenty of burst out of stoppage scenarios alongside Shazi Cappello, who was doing all the damage, and Chloe Talbot was the main beneficiary up forward as Kilmore led 53-6 at the main break.
Kilmore continued on their merry way after the break as they continued to generate chance after chance. Talbot generated two more goals for the quarter, one which saw Kilmore again hold Whittlesea scoreless.
The Blues finished the game with another flurry of four goals, while the Eagles managed a consolation goal, as Kilmore finished full of running, scoring 15.9 (99) to 2.0 (12).
Cappello was dominant across midfield, while Nardo finished with four goals. Talbot kicked six, while Jess Vilinskis, Kristy Nunn and Macey Kubeil completed the best players for the Blues.
In all, it was a successful weekend for the Blues, who landed their first win of the under 19s season after accounting for Banyule 2 by 20 points, 12.8 (80) to 9.6 (60).
After leading by five points at half time, the Blues erupted in the second half to score four goals to one in the third quarter, before easing home off the back of Blake Munari-O’Dwyer’s four goals.
In senior results around division three, Mernda were no match for Fitzroy Stars, losing by 47 points, while Laurimar held on in a thriller against Epping to win by 11 points, with star full-forward Patrick Fitzgerald helping himself to an eight-goal haul.
Whittlesea held off a Watsonia third-term charge to take a 27-point victory in division two, while in division one, South Morang kicked 16 goals but still went down to Montmorency by 50 points in a high-scoring encounter.
In the Friday night netball competition, it was a mixed night for Kilmore and Broadford in the second round of grading.
Kilmore scored six out of nine victories. Kilmore 1 went down to Banyule 2 by a solitary goal, but Kilmore 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 9 all scored victories, while Kilmore 7 and 8 also tasted defeat.
