Friends of Toorourrong, a Victorian Landcare Gateway group, recently met at the Whittlesea Community Activity Centre to discuss a range of topics, including the installation of a commemorative plaque and a proposed celebration.

Secretary Jan Hyndman stated the meeting was well attended, not only by Friends of Toorourrong members but also by many representatives of various groups within the area.

The group’s main concern was to discuss the proposed celebration of the 140th anniversary of the Toorourrong Reservoir and Upper Northern Yan Yean Water Supply System.

“We had a most successful event for the 170th Yan Yean Reservoir in March, and will continue the celebration of this groundbreaking achievement by Victoria back in the 1800s,” Ms Hyndman said.

The commemorative plaque that will seek to recognise the event will be unveiled in December, with the exact date yet to be announced.

Noting that the 10th anniversary of the organisation was coming up in 2025, Ms Hyndman stated the group was considering holding a fun run, walk, and wheelchair to celebrate in March next year.

“[The fun run will] entice young families and residents of the City of Whittlesea, who may not know of the beautiful Toorourrong Reservoir Park,” she said.

“This will be followed by lots of fun children’s activities and leisurely adult events. Food and refreshment vans will be on site.”
