Friendship is a shelter in the storm of life, and for Wallan resident Mindy Saini, her good friend Alana Tingey has been the refuge during every milestone.
In celebration of International Friendship Day on July 30, the two friends are among many to recognise their life-long friendship which began at Wallan Primary School when two little girls from regional Victoria formed a bond that would last forever.
From the innocent days of childhood, navigating the hallways of primary school, to the tumultuous years of puberty at Whittlesea Secondary College, the pair grew up together, supporting one another through each and every milestone.
When it was time to grow up, and make ‘adult’ decisions, Ms Tingey moved interstate while Ms Saini stayed. Yet despite the distance, their bond only strengthened.
Just like any other long-distance friendship, it was countless late-night conversations and comfort during life’s inevitable challenges that kept the friends together, and now the two are embarking on the next chapter of their lives – motherhood.
Witnessing the journey of motherhood, Ms Tingey has made Ms Saini a proud ‘aunty’, reminding her of the enduring power of their friendship.
“Alana has been my rock, my confidante, and my biggest cheerleader,” Ms Saini said.
“Our friendship blossomed through the trials and tribulations of adolescence, the excitement of first crushes, and the heartache of life through parental separation.”
Ms Saini said she wanted to surprise Ms Tingey with their story of friendship in the local paper.
“Our story is a testament to the beauty of lifelong companionship. Alana has not only been a best friend but also my sister, a mentor, and an irreplaceable part of my life,” she said.
“On this International Friendship Day, I celebrate the incredible bond we share and look forward to many more years of laughter, love, and shared adventures.
“Thank you, Alana, for being the extraordinary friend that you are. Here’s to a lifetime of cherished memories, an ever-growing family, and unbreakable bonds.”
