Free, healthy, and nutritious breakfasts are coming to every government school to help families with the cost of living.
Backed by the State Government, the School Breakfast Clubs Program has received a $21.1 million investment to help expand the reach of the program, adding an additional 150 schools to the 1000-strong participation list by January 2025, with remaining schools to be added to the list by June 2025.
Whittlesea Primary School has been part of the program since 2021, and its popularity has grown from serving just a few students in its initial days to serving over 70 toasties in a single day.
On special occasions, volunteers like Casey Brown and Jenny Towt go above and beyond, providing hot pancakes as an additional treat. The volunteers also ensure that lunches, snacks, and take-home food packs for students experiencing disadvantage or financial strain are also available.
Students are also getting involved in the program, volunteering alongside the Rotary Club of Whittlesea who donates both their time and resources too.
It is expected that the expansion of the program will see 200,000 students supported.
In other Whittlesea Primary School news, the school has recently opened their brand-new toilet block, the upgrade a result of an organised effort from dedicated parents and staff, and $320,000 in government funding.
