The North Central Review is an independently owned newspaper publishing company based in Kilmore that is responsible for publishing two community newspapers each week, covering communities within the Mitchell Shire

Work experience student Isabelle Williams is an eager-to-learn highschool student, immensely interested in journalism and all things literature, who chose to complete her Year 10 work experience at the North Central Review.

Ms Williams hoped to learn about the inner workings of a newspaper, and all the effort and hard work that goes behind curating a weekly paper, as well as attaining an understanding of how a career in journalism may appear.

When asked at the end of the week how she felt her experience had benefited her, Ms Williams stated she had ‘gained a great understanding of journalism’.

“I’m overwhelmed by the amount of effort all the hardworking and dedicated journalists put into the paper each week,” she said.

Throughout the week, Ms Williams attended numerous press outings, and experienced talking on radio and interviewing multiple members of the community, in addition to writing several articles which appeared in issues of the Review.

“I really enjoyed speaking on radio, as well as getting the opportunity to write my own articles,” she said.

The highschool student is hoping to further her interest in journalism and law, and hopes to study literature and possibly investigative journalism in university. Outside of her journalistic interests, Ms Williams also enjoys dancing and trains several times a week.

Ms Williams immensely enjoyed her time at the North Central Review and encourages any other eager students who enjoy literature, those looking to partake in work experience, or those interested in studying journalism to consider the local paper.

The Review would like to thank Ms Williams for choosing to complete her work experience at the paper, with Editor Emily Waite praising the budding journalist’s efforts.

“It was fantastic having Isabelle jump on board with us. She’s a great writer, and she was an absolute joy to have in the office. We wish her all the best with her future endeavours,” she said.
