The cricket season is officially over after Romsey was sent packing by the unbeaten Gisborne in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association, GDCA, McIntyre Cup grand final at the weekend.
Romsey was sent into bat on Saturday and posted 10/212 by the end of the day, spearheaded by 63 from captain Ben Way alongside 47 from Chris Burkett.
Jed Richardson and Tim Dale also pitched in with 28 and 22 respectively, but nothing could be done to stop the charge put on by Gisborne’s Leigh Brennan who took a massive five wickets on the day.
On Sunday it seemed like Gisborne had everything under control with the bat – its openers Matthew Barake and Riley Vernon posting a formidable 139 runs in 42 overs.
It was not until the 43rd over that Romsey was finally able to get a foot in, as Jamie Taylor eliminated Barake leg before wicket in his first of two dismissals.
The second was on Riley Vernon, who was caught out in a piece of strong fielding by Aaron Paterson.

Paterson himself took two wickets to eliminate Wilhem Mackay and captain Jarryd Vernon, however it proved to be too little too late as Gisborne waltzed over the line on 4/213.
The result was Romsey’s first loss for the season, as scheduled clashes in rounds seven and 10 were called off due to poor weather.
