A new community food share initiative in Seymour will assist people in need of support.
The collaboration between Healthy Kids Mitchell and Seymour Food Relief Collaborative was launched earlier this month, giving away at least 50 hampers on its first day.
Hosted at The Centre in Wallis Street, the program will provide non-perishable hampers to people who need it most on a monthly basis.
Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland said the food relief program was a great initiative that would help many members in the community who were struggling.
“I want to congratulate those involved on successfully launching this amazing program,” she said.
“It is a sad reality that many in our local region are doing it tough with the cost-of-living crisis having a significant impact on families across Seymour and the wider electorate.
“This program will make a real difference in helping these people get some much-needed help and some relief from soaring grocery prices, exorbitant bills, and the lingering impact of last year’s floods.”
Additional food relief sources will be made available in Seymour, and the new initiative’s group is aiming to help overcome the stigma sometimes associated with needing help to make do.
People are invited to attend for a coffee and chat at the monthly offering, with the food hampers arranged through Shepperton Foodshare.
The collaborative will also provide people with information on other services and support available to the community.
