Donnybrook Road bridge in Yan Yean will undergo major work upgrades over the next four weeks, resulting in a section of Donnybrook Road being closed for one month.
The State Government is investing $1.6 million to improve Donnybrook Road bridge over Barbers Creek, reconstructing the damaged bridge deck, as well as strengthening the teel bridge beams to allow heavy vehicles to use the freight route.
Donnybrook Road will be closed between Plenty Road and Epping Road from March 6 to April 6, with traffic to be detoured via Epping Road, Bridge Inn Road and Plenty Road.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead, and allow up to an extra 20 minutes of travel time.
A temporary 60-kilometre speed limit was introduced, and once the project is completed, the speed limit will return to 100 kilometres an hour.
Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage said the major works were important to the growing community, providing reliable journeys across Yan Yean, and benefiting road users with safer and improved journeys.
“We’re upgrading the Donnybrook Road bridge in Yan Yean – which includes strengthening and rehabilitation works – to create safer and more reliable journeys for the thousands of road users that travel across the area each day,” she said.
“This upgrade will keep Victorians moving, as well as create a stronger crossing over Barbers Creek, providing a better freight link for businesses in this growing community.”
