City of Whittlesea councillor Ricky Kirkham announced his immediate resignation last night.
The former North Ward councillor made a statement on his official Facebook page thanking the community and citing his disappointment with council losing focus on quality outcomes.
“The current circumstances at Council have made it impossible for me to discharge my obligations to hold Council accountable. For five months, I have raised serious concerns about Council’s failure to manage major contracts such as our Parks, Gardens and Open Space,” Mr Kirkham said.
“This situation has led me to determine, that despite my best efforts, I can no longer in good conscience continue in this role. In this environment, I am unable to provide the level of representation and accountability I believe you deserve.”
The councillor’s resignation took effect on Tuesday February 17.
Mr Kirkham served as mayor twice for the City Of Whittlesea.
More to come in next Tuesday’s edition of the Whittlesea Review.
