ONE Nation has announced candidates for the local seats of Macedon and Kalkallo.

Troy Steans is set to contest Kalkallo, challenging incumbent Ros Spence.

Mr Steans has volunteered with the CFA for over 25 years while working in the public transport and coach industry.

His website says: “His career has taught him that good government is about more than promises. It is about understanding problems, finding practical solutions and delivering results that improve people’s everyday lives.”

Damien Parolin will contest Macedon alongside Annette Death, Kate Kendall and Dominic Bonanno.

Mary-Anne Thomas has held the seat for close to 12 years but has chosen not to contest this year’s election, opening the field to a new representative.

Mr Parolin said he would advocate for residents of Macedon, protect the electorate’s rural character and push for changes to regional taxes.

Describing himself as a blue-collar, working-class candidate, he said he had lived in the eastern Macedon Ranges since 1994.

“The two major political parties see our electorate as ‘business as usual’, and a place where they can deliver nothing and still receive votes,” he said.

His early commitments include reviewing what he described as Macedon Ranges Shire Council’s failures regarding the Amess Road development, Lancefield’s Development Plan Overlay Schedule 24 and the Clarkefield township development.

He also proposed abolishing payroll tax in regional Victoria, abolishing the state’s First Nations treaty and winding back land tax for small property owners.
