THE Macedon Ranges Shire Council’s (MRSC) performance review for the 2025/26 has been released, indicating relatively steady service performance on previous reporting.

Key performance indicators such as road condition, planning and waste diversion fell short of their targets outlined in the MRSC’s most recent budget, but each showed improvement compared to last year’s figures.

Councillor Jennifer Anderson spoke to the motion at Wednesday’s council meeting, saying that the shortfalls each came with explanations.

“Twelve months ago, it’s often very hard to predict the environment, where you might go, and what might happen,” Cr Anderson said.

“Despite that, we’ve done pretty well. A couple are not quite as expected but they are improving, in particular planning.

“We’ve still got a way to go, but it’s definitely showing some improvement there which is great to see.”

The service standard of statutory planning in the Macedon Ranges has jumped up 13 per cent from 2025, but still fell well short of the targeted 60 per cent.

Road conditions remained nearly identical to last year’s figures, improving by just 0.01 per cent.

Cr Anderson thanked those who informed and put together the statement.

“It is really important to look at these [performance reviews] and see how we’ve gone in the last 12 months and compare them with previous years where those indicators have been available,” she said.

“Even if we are better than the benchmark, better than the areas in our region, we still need to look at maintaining that level or even improving them.”

In the areas of shortfall, Cr Anderson reassured the public that they will be looking to identify contributing factors that undermined the performance for the community.

“That’s what we’re always aiming to do. To be as efficient as we can, to make the best use of your ratepayer money and to get those services … at the highest standard,” she said.

Councillors unanimously passed both the Performance Statement and the 2025/26 Financial Statement on to the Victorian Auditor-General for final approval.
