SEYMOUR got the job done over Benalla in a scrappy affair at Kings Park, and are now a game and a half clear in third position thanks to favourable results.

It was difficult for Seymour to get away for a large portion of the day, with Benalla sticking around on a Kings Park surface lashed by rain throughout the week.

However, the Lions did kick three goals in the opening term to lead by five points at the first change, 24-19.

Goals were harder to come by for the Lions in the second term, despite having much of the play. Instead, the Saints managed two goals, while Seymour, for its part, could only manage one goal from eight scoring shots, leaving the game delicately poised at half time, 37-32.

Again, Seymour couldn’t capitalise on opportunities in the third. One goal from seven scoring shots, and Benalla kicking two more goals, leaving Seymour on the barely believable scoreline of 5.19 (49), yet holding on by four points at the final change.

Then, it started to happen.

The Lions finally got their kicking boots on in the last term after two more behinds, with Jaron Murphy and Ricky Schraven allowing the Lions to extend the lead to 16 points.

Two Benalla goals led to a nervy finish, but the Lions held strong. Goals to Nathan Beattie, Tom Jeffrey and Ben Cooney sealed the deal, with the Lions winning 10.22 (82) to 9.5 (59).

Dylan Cook was best on ground for the Lions, supported by Darcy Giles, Lachlan Giles, Nicholas Quigg and Jesse Brock.

The reserves took a 14-point win, with Jack Radford in the thick of everything, kicking four goals. The under-18s could not find a win, however, losing by 34 points.

On the court, Seymour came narrowly close to taking a clean sweep, falling short in the 15-and-under grade by five goals. But A-grade continues to motor, taking a 74-18 win to vault up into fourth position on the ladder.
