Wrestler making moves

LOCAL wrestler Jimmy Castle* has had a big year already, but now he’s preparing himself for a possible appearance at one of the biggest events on the Victorian wrestling calendar.

The Whittlesea area’s up-and-coming star has been battling it out with some of the most impressive performers on the Australian wrestling scene, teaming up with Johnny “Thunderbolt” Jetts* to form ‘The Physicals’.

Boisterous, crowd favourites and looking to prove themselves, they have made their mark on the local wrestling scene in their short time competing.

Speaking with the Review about his own journey, Castle said: “Things have changed a lot in the three years I’ve been wrestling.”

“In the grand scheme of things, I’m still incredibly new to it all. There’s still a lot to achieve and still a lot to learn,” he added.

“Wrestling is one of those sports where every time you step in the ring, you come out a better performer.”

Performing in several Melbourne City Wrestling (MCW) events, including a recent appearance at High Stakes 2026, the duo now have their eyes firmly fixed on a possible spot on the prestigious Ballroom Brawl roster.

The event is run by MCW, who refers to the event as “the biggest night on the MCW calendar”. Twenty competitors enter in an order determined by a lottery system, allocating each wrestler a number.

It would be Castle’s third appearance at the Ballroom Brawl, with The Physicals previously becoming the first wrestlers in history to enter under the same number, which Jimmy said gave them a great advantage.

“Nothing is promised when it comes to Ballroom Brawl so you never know who might enter. That’s what makes it the biggest event for MCW.”

We may see Jimmy on the main stage later this month, but focusing more broadly on how wrestling is tracking, he said wrestling in Australia has “exploded in popularity” in recent years.

“When we promise to put on a great show and deliver, fans usually keep coming back,” he said.

“I believe wrestling in Australia will only continue to grow, and with new faces constantly emerging on the scene, the momentum is only building.”

Above everything else, Jimmy is a strong advocate for the growth of the industry and believes that one of the best ways to get more people involved is to get them through the doors to watch an event in the flesh.

“It’s truly unlike anything else. In my short time in the wrestling scene, I’ve never met a fan who left a show feeling unhappy or dissatisfied. It doesn’t matter how much you know about wrestling, you’re guaranteed to have a great time.”

The Ballroom Brawl takes place on Saturday, June 27, at the Melbourne Pavilion. The winner will get the opportunity to fight for the MCW World Heavyweight Championship.
