A STIRRING final quarter comeback has lifted Laurimar’s senior women’s footballers to their first win of the season in the Northern Football Netball League, beating Thomastown by four points in division three.
Entering the game with a genuine chance to break their drought, the Power fell behind early after conceding the first two goals.
They hit back before the end of the first quarter to reduce the margin back to five but were kept at arm’s length by the Bears throughout the middle two quarters.
A quick goal brought it back to three points early in the final term, and the Power took the lead not long after with their fourth major for the day.
Frantic defence followed and Thomastown still had a chance to win it as the clock ticked down but couldn’t convert.
Relief and jubilation flooded the ground when the final siren sounded, Laurimar able to secure its first win since July last year.
Ella Hoffman was huge all day and rightfully received best-on-ground honours for her two goals, while Sarah Campbell and ruck Rai Chambers also got on the scoresheet.
Campbell joined Hoffman in Laurimar’s best, along with Tara Dyer, Hayley Dyer, Courtney Dark and Lize-Carina Jankowitz.
Whittlesea’s women got the four points after Darebin forfeited the matchup.
The Eagles will return to their home ground after the week off against third-placed St Mary’s, while Laurimar will head north to Wallan.
