ASSUMPTION College, much like the rest of Australia, is in mourning after the death of 2025 Australian of the Year Neale Daniher, with the college dedicating a post to one of its finest students, who adorns the name of its sport pavilion.
In a statement, Assumption College said the loss was ‘deeply personal’.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Neale Daniher, an extraordinary Australian whose courage and leadership touched the lives of many. Neale passed away following a long and courageous battle with Motor Neurone Disease,” they wrote.
“For our Assumption College community, this loss is deeply personal. Neale’s connection to the College as a former student, and his enduring witness to resilience, faith, humility and hope, has long been a source of inspiration for our students, staff and families.
“In the face of significant adversity, Neale demonstrated remarkable strength and purpose. Through his leadership of FightMND and initiatives such as the Big Freeze, he galvanised a nation, raising significant awareness and support for those impacted by this devastating illness. Above all, he showed us what it means to live with dignity, courage and a commitment to the service of others. He indeed embodied St Marcellin Champagnat’s proclamation “to make Jesus Christ known and loved”.
“We hold Neale’s family in our thoughts and prayers at this time, and we give thanks for the legacy he leaves – one grounded in perseverance, compassion and hope.”
