NORTHERN Community Legal Centre (Northern CLC) is providing free legal advice at the Greater Beveridge Community Centre.
Every Wednesday, people who live or work in the southern wards of Mitchell Shire now have easier access to in-person, free legal advice concerning family violence intervention orders, family law, migration law, and criminal matters.
CEO Jenni Smith said: “Access to a good lawyer shouldn’t be determined by your postcode. Too often, people who live outside Melbourne or big towns get a rough deal when it comes to getting quality legal advice and representation.”
“We are really pleased to be able to bring our free legal advice service directly into Beveridge. With the support of the Victorian Government, these weekly clinics will make it much easier for local families and individuals to get legal help close to home, particularly for those who can feel quite isolated.”
Lawyers can assist people facing difficulties with insurance claims (bushfire or other natural disaster recovery) and people with debts on their car loans, credit cards, personal loans, telecommunications, and utility debts.
People with employment issues relating to sexual harassment, flexible work, parental leave, family violence, and unfair dismissal may also be eligible to access free legal advice.
When it comes to residential bond payments, refunds, and disputes, breaking a lease, compensation for tenants, lease assignment, notice to vacate, rent increases and repairs the Northern CLC aims to help.
Appointments are available every Wednesday between 9.30am and 12.30pm at the Greater Beveridge Community Centre on the corners of Lithgow Street and Mandalay Circuit, Beveridge.
