The Lancefield Gift returns to Lancefield Park on Saturday, November 15, promising a full day of athletics and Highland Games action. With $6,000 in prize money for both the men’s and women’s 400m Gift, it remains Australia’s richest 400m race, alongside $5,000 for the two premier 120m sprints, attracting some of the nation’s top athletes.

Following a triumphant revival in 2024—its first running since the 1960s—the event is set to be even bigger this year.

“Last year’s Gift proved that Lancefield could host a truly national event,” organiser Chris Dynon said.

The 2025 program expands with the debut of the Lancefield Cup, an 800m race reviving the historic Matthew Maher Handicap, and the inclusion of the Highland Games.

The Lancefield Gift, first staged in the late 1800s, was once a highlight of Victoria’s athletics circuit before its decades-long hiatus. Last year’s women’s champion, Bella Pasquali, returns to defend her title after going on to win bronze at the World Indoor Championships. The men’s 120m Sprint also proved a key lead-up to the Stawell Gift, with several finalists emerging from Lancefield.

Mr Dynon credited the event’s success to strong community and sponsor support, particularly from the Community Bank Lancefield and Romsey.

“It’s not just about running—it’s about local pride and putting our town on show,” he said.

The Highland Games begin at 8.30am, with athletics starting at noon and the 400m Gift finals closing the program after 6pm.
