SOUTH Morang will play host to a rare opportunity this week, with world-renowned Australian performer Cosentino performing in the town on Friday night.
The performer has previously been a best-selling author, multi-awardwinning performer and has had shows broadcast to over 750 million viewers across 40 countries, but has decided to perform a rare acoustic set at the Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre (PRACC) to bring his show to more of a stripped-back style.
Speaking to the Whittlesea Review, Cosentino said it was the result of careful decision-making when deciding to bring his talents to South Morang.
“I’ve been doing large, elaborate shows for almost two decades, jumping in and out of water tanks, hanging upside down from burning ropes, having crossbows shot at me. Then I did a best of tour a couple of years ago, where I took all my best and favourite material and put it all together, then asked what do I do next?” he said.
“I decided to do an acoustic set. Strip it down. Everyone who has seen my act has seen it in a particular way. I thought I’d try it the same way a musician strips it back. That doesn’t mean it’s less magical, less baffling or astonishing, it means it is done in a more relaxed, more intimate atmosphere.
“It allows me to reach people in venues I couldn’t have reached, with too much equipment, too many crew members and too many cast members. I can now reach audiences that don’t have to travel.”
Having previously utilised illusion and escape artistry, Cosentino said his show would be stripped back and essentially controlled by City of Whittlesea-based audiences on Friday night.
“The show is audience interaction. It’s based on the entire audience, so I’ll constantly bring people up. They determine the direction of the show, and what I mean by that is how enthusiastic they are, or what kind of people get involved and it dictates the outcome,” he said.
