A LOCAL Seymour author is releasing a book all in the name of teaching people how to budget and invest.
Carolyn Mowat is launching her book, Creating Overflow, at the VRI Hall in Seymour on Saturday, October 3 at 3pm, which is the completion of a journey which began out of realising saving money was not the same as making money grow.
Ms Mowat was fine with making a household budget work, having raised 11 children on one income, and learning about planning, financial decisions and making the most of money available.
But it was a realisation of how to get on top of things once money was saved which meant Ms Mowat started asking questions.
“I knew how to budget and I knew how to make money stretch,” she said.
“But I began to realise that saving money and growing money are not the same thing. I wanted to understand what people did differently when they wanted their money to begin working for them.”
Through this, Ms Mowat learned about investing, risk, different types of assets, building capital and creation of income.
Creating Overflow is all about the lessons Ms Mowat learned in real time, not a step-by-step guide, more or less what she did to develop the framework to invest wisely.
“Creating Overflow isn’t about getting rich,” she said.
“It’s about creating increasing freedom, one wise decision at a time.”
The book is particularly written for people who may have spent years concentrating on earning, budgeting, paying bills and saving, but have never really understood the next stage of making their money work for them.
Carolyn hopes her own experience will encourage people who think investing is something only for experts or people with large amounts of money to begin learning and asking questions.
