ONLY a small six-race card was held at Kilmore Memorial Night on Thursday when the club honoured many past participants with many suggesting the night would not go ahead with very heavy rain falling prior to and at the start, however after a track inspection, stewards were satisfied that the track was safe even though the start was put back ten minutes due to some track repairs.
The Leli and Mary Mifsud Memorial Trotters Mobile over 1690 metres commenced the meeting with many of the Mifsud family in attendance – the winner very much in-form 8YO mare Jessicas Story bringing up her 17th success in 191 outings.
The Ken (Snowy) Chapman Memorial Concession Drivers Pace over 2180 metres went the way of Ross Creek owner/trainer Stephen Clarke’s 9YO Art Major-Askmenow gelding Forgone Conclusion who is as tough as old boots.
The 1690 metre Don Logie Memorial Pace saw heavily supported 3YO gelding Covered In Gold winning
Wallan owner/breeder Noel Shinn and wife trainer Ruth’s home bred first starter Alloa, a Poster Boy-Albetta colt, was victorious in the Bob Cain Memorial Vicbred Voucher Maiden Pace over 1690 metres.
The Graeme Wilson Memorial Vicbred Voucher Maiden Pace saw Kurunjing (Melton) trainer Maree Caldow and husband John combine to land the major prize with 3YO Ride High-Kalinda gelding Bungy much to the delight of the Brennan Family who raced and bred him.
Goulburn Valley owner/breeders Greg and Jen Pell’s 3YO American Ideal-Izzy Jolie gelding Mason Jolie led throughout from gate three in the Bob Knight Memorial Pace over 2180 metres after being rated a treat by Nick Beale.
The track curator should be congratulated on the condition of the track following so much rain.
The next meeting at Kilmore is July 8.
