LOCAL children are already learning, playing and growing at Wollert’s newest kindergarten.
The purpose-built Wirrigirri Kindergarten at 120 Saltlake Boulevard features three modern kindergarten rooms welcoming 59 children, providing more families with access to quality early childhood education close to home.
City of Whittlesea Acting CEO Debbie Wood was joined by Minister for Children Lizzie Blandthorn and Member for Mill Park Lily D’Ambrosio for the opening.
Co-located with Wirrigirri Primary School, the kindergarten provides a welcoming, nurturing and enriching learning environment where children build skills, confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
The project was funded by the Victorian Government, with Council receiving a $156,000 grant from the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) to support with the fit-out. Council also contributed $25,000 towards signage and other project expenses.
As Wollert continues to grow, the new kindergarten will help ensure local families have access to the early learning opportunities that give children the best possible start in life.
City of Whittlesea Mayor Councillor Lawrie Cox said this gave the people of Wollert another opportunity to give their kids peace of mind in choosing a kindergarten.
“Kindergarten offers children opportunities to explore, create, make friends and develop a strong sense of belonging as they begin their learning journey,” he said.
“Council staff worked very closely with the VSBA to ensure this new kinder meets the needs of children, parents and teachers.
“I thank the Victorian Government for their commitment to ensuring children in our municipality get the best start to life they can.”
