TAKING a leap to good health and happiness – this is a mantra for Whittlesea’s residents aged 50 and over.

The City of Whittlesea 2026 Positive Ageing Program supports those aged 50 and over to stay active, healthy and socially connected.

The program offers a diverse range of fun and affordable activities, designed to sustain physical wellbeing, social connection and lifelong learning.

Residents of any backgrounds, genders and abilities can take part in various activities.

Programs offered include Morning Melodies, a monthly music and entertainment program featuring live performances, Lunch in a Bunch, a monthly lunch gathering at various restaurants, and Know Your City Bus Tours, helping residents explore local landmarks, hidden gems and community spaces.

Other programs are Social Connections Programs, tenpin bowling, walking football, Seniors Exercise Park – an outdoor space with equipment to help improve strength, balance and mobility – and social golf program.

Mayor Lawrie Cox said the Positive Ageing Program is designed to maintain the independence and social engagement of older residents.

“Whether you are in your 50s or your 80s and over, this is a great way to build friendships, enjoy new experiences, and maintain overall wellbeing,” Cr Cox said.

“Council is committed to creating welcoming, inclusive spaces where older residents feel connected, supported and valued.”

The Positive Ageing Program is delivered through the Let Everyone Actively Participate (LEAP) initiative, which aims to optimise the wellbeing and inclusion of people aged 50 and over. Programs also form part of the social connection and centre based respite services for eligible residents aged over 65 (or 50 and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) under the Commonwealth Home Support Program.

LEAP membership is free and includes eligibility for discounted memberships at Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre (TRAC) and Mill Park Leisure.
