SENIOR representative cricket is making a long-awaited return to the Seymour District Cricket Association (SDCA) calendar after six years, with the region’s best players set to face the Emu Valley Cricket Association at Chittick Park, Seymour, on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

The match is part of a new trial launched by Northern Rivers Cricket, which will see all member associations take part in senior representative fixtures during the 2025–26 season. The initiative aims to strengthen regional competition, providing talented local players with opportunities to test themselves against neighbouring leagues. If successful, the format could be expanded in future seasons.

While the SDCA has consistently fielded junior representative teams in Country Week tournaments, the reintroduction of a senior side marks a significant step forward for the association and its players. It not only revives a proud local cricketing tradition but also offers a fresh pathway for cricketers looking to showcase their skills at a higher level.

SDCA President Mitch Itter said the return of senior representative cricket had generated strong excitement across local clubs and players, who are eager to don the SDCA colours once again. He said the fixture provides a better fit for players than the traditional Melbourne Country Week format and reflects Northern Rivers Cricket’s renewed focus on regional engagement and player development.

The association is confident of fielding a competitive side when it meets Emu Valley in February and hopes the fixture will reignite the sense of pride and rivalry that has long defined country cricket.

In preparation for the upcoming clash, the SDCA is calling for expressions of interest for key volunteer roles, including Coach, Team Manager, and Scorer.

Those interested in supporting the representative program are encouraged to contact SDCA President Mitch Itter via email at pres.sdca@gmail.com.

The February fixture promises to be a celebration of regional cricket, uniting clubs and supporters as senior representative action returns to Seymour’s Chittick Park.
