SEYMOUR’S Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk is set to benefit from a valued upgrade thanks to a $5000 donation from the Seymour Club.

The Commemorative Walk is an important part of the town’s history and attracts people to Seymour from right across the nation. It stands as a permanent tribute to the men and women who served in the Vietnam War, offering a place of reflection, remembrance, and education.

Seymour Club President, Sandra O’Sullivan, outlined the importance of supporting local veterans, adding that the Seymour Club has long supported the RSL.

“They support us, so we’re happy to make this donation. The walk is a drawcard for the town to get visitors. We need more visitors to come in so we want to make sure that the town is presented well, and the commemorative walk is very good, a lot of people visit it,” Ms O’Sullivan said.

Seymour RSL President, Matt McLaughlin, said the donation would provide real benefits.

“Every dollar goes back into supporting veterans, whether it’s through direct welfare, commemorations like ANZAC Day, or keeping our doors open as a place of connection. This support from the Seymour Club ensures we can keep doing what we do best,” he said.

The Seymour Club, a long-standing social hub in the town, has a strong track record of supporting local groups and causes. For Ms O’Sullivan, assisting the RSL was a natural choice.

“Our veterans and their families have given so much to this country and to our community. We’re proud to stand alongside the RSL and make sure their important work continues,” she said.

Officially opened in 2013, the Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk is one of the most significant memorials of its kind in Australia. It features a long pathway flanked by native plantings symbolising the Vietnamese landscape, along with a recreation of the Luscombe Bowl concert stage. The centrepiece is a series of glass panels etched with the names of all 60,267 Australians who served during the Vietnam War, ensuring that every individual contribution is remembered.

The site attracts thousands of visitors annually, including veterans, families, school groups, and tourists, who come to pay their respects and learn more about Australia’s involvement in the conflict. As a free and accessible memorial, it continues to play a vital role in both community remembrance and education.

This latest partnership between the Seymour Club and the Seymour RSL highlights the town’s enduring respect for servicemen and women, while also showcasing how local organisations can work together for the benefit of the community.
