WORDS are so often inadequate to express our deepest feelings and emotions however early composers and poets proved that in their hands; the pen is mightier than the sword.
In the next Peter Hagen salon concert series, three musicians will lead the audience on a deeply expressive and emotional journey back in time 400 years ago, with music by early 17th century Italian composers, Claudio Merula and Barbara Strozzi.
In demand, talented Australian singer Kate Macfarlane will perform along with Samantha Cohen on her theorbo, and they are joined by local keyboard player, Peter Hagen.
Here’s your chance to hear a theorbo played by a master and it sets the perfect backdrop to Ms Macfarlanes coloratura soprano voice.
Ms Cohen has played with many Australian baroque orchestras and small ensembles.
The theorbo is essentially a lute, a distant relative to the guitar. Mr Hagen said the stringed instrument will also highlight notes from the chamber organ and harpsichord.
The Wordsmith concert is on Sunday, June 22, with the doors opening at 3.30pm.
Parking is free and complimentary drinks are the perfect chance to chat with the musicians afterwards.
