YOUNG netballers at Epping Football Netball Club (EFNC) enjoyed a special visit from former Melbourne Vixens netballer last week.
Now an Australian sport commentator Catherine Cox is also an ambassador for the next generation of netballers with Woolworths NetSetGO program—Australia’s official starter program for girls and boys aged five to 10.
The club was the winner of the 2024 Woolworths People’s Choice Awards.
The $20,000 coup has helped the club with lights, to purchase new bibs and balls and to increase their memberships and especially, the number of NetSetGO participants.
The club also introduced scholarships to lessen the financial strain of registering.
Junior Netball coach, Meaghan Coyle spoke to the Today Show on Tuesday last week.
“We are so grateful,” she said.
“It’s been a fantastic opportunity for us to grow our club. We started with three netball teams, in July last year when we won the grant and we’ve gone to eight junior netball teams.
“We’ve tripled the number of NetSetGO participants.
“We know people are doing it tough…we wanted to try make it a little bit more accessible for kids to get to training every week, to get on the court and to get the benefits of that regular physical activity.”
Woolworths Netball Grants are helping to freshen up netball clubs all over Australia to give young people opportunities to become the new generation of netball athletes.
Since 2019, Woolworths have donated an outstanding $1.4m across 322 Aussie netball clubs, and as a result 160,000 Aussie boys and girls have picked up a netball, learnt the basic skills to have a game and along the way made friends.
Another way the fresh food people are backing the program is by providing healthy and nutritious food for the participants.
This year grants of $2000 will be awarded to up to 40 clubs across Australia, helping them to introduce NetSetGO to their communities, and another opportunity for clubs to try for the 2025 People’s Choice Award which comes with massive $20,000 grant.
