DESPITE the challenging economic climate, the local community has come together in an extraordinary show of unity and generosity, raising an incredible $153,500 towards the record-breaking total of $23,882,000 for the Children’s Hospital Good Friday appeal.
This remarkable effort is a testament to the enduring spirit, resilience, and compassion that defines our region.
Every dollar raised carries a story of families giving what they could, local businesses stepping up despite their own struggles, and volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes.
It’s this deep sense of community and commitment to one another that makes this achievement truly special.
A shining example of this dedication can be seen in the tireless work of local CFA (Country Fire Authority) volunteers who already give so much of themselves in service and protection of the community.
CFA members throughout the area played a vital role in rallying support and leading local fundraising initiatives. From running sausage sizzles and community raffles, to knocking on doors and rattling collection tins at collection points on the roadside, the CFA volunteers brought their trademark energy, passion, and heart to every moment of Good Friday.
Broadford resident, Tarryn Auger, has volunteered to answering one of the donation phones at the main collection centre since 2007.
She says it has been a heartwarming and humbling experience to witness the generosity of so many people.
“Knowing that each call answered contributed to better care, equipment and support for sick kids and their families makes the whole day worthwhile,” Ms Auger said.
The local contribution is seen as a significant and meaningful contribution. It represents the spirit of giving, the strength of community, and the power of collective effort.
