REGISTRATIONS for the sixth Kilmore and Regional Busking Championships close this Friday, with Kilmore getting ready to shake, rattle and roll with talent.

The Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell facilitates the fun family event with support from community volunteers and generous donations from local businesses and organisations.

There are three sections to enter including primary—ages 5 to 12, secondary, ages 13 to 18 and open. Costs to compete are $25 for a soloist, $40 for a duo, and $60 for a group of three plus.

Judges will be awarding cash prizes between $50 to $200, and buskers can keep any audience contributions. The buskers generally play three sets throughout the day between 10am to 3pm.

Rotary Club President Rose King said busking is a platform for young talent.

“It is different every year,” she said.

“When I see these young people who come to the busking championships, they get really confident.

“We Have Paul Raes Music Group, there’s actually seven performers this year including Tilly [Rose] and Maya [O’Loughlin].

“We have Corey Craze, who is a regular busker around Melbourne, and he is known for
his magic and some very dangerous chainsaw tricks.

“Bands and drummers will be located outside Pat Croke Furniture and close to Wheel House Bikes, both businesses sponsor prizes in the competition.

“John Curran is returning with his energetic range of pop vocals and guitar, and we welcome back Charem who placed second in the open section last year,” she said.

First timer Jack Bamford will share original verses borne out of his mental health recovery and feature his partner, Penny, in an impromptu style of poetry he calls the battle.

“30 minute intervals is a long time to perform, I will need Penny to help me.”

Ms King said the event complements the much anticipated annual Kilmore Art Expo.

“We are welcoming back singer and guitarist Valeida, and she will also perform live at the Kilmore Art Expo opening at the Memorial Hall on Friday, April 12 from 6.30pm.

In conclusion, a free concert featuring the three finalists in each of the age categories will be held at Kilmore Trackside from 4pm to 6pm.
