A local environment group has been named as one of 25 successful recipients in the latest round of the Partnerships Against Pests grants program.
Taking a share in the $5 million on offer is the Upper Plenty Merri Catchments Landcare Group, who will use their $10,850 in approved funds to minimise the impact of foxes and feral cats in the King Parrot Creek catchment
The group will collect data via remote camera monitoring and fox scat analysis to inform future control programs across approximately 4000 hectares, while remaining funds will be used to upgrade their website and communication processes, improving community awareness and technical knowledge of best practice management options.
Minister for Agriculture Ros Spence was pleased to announce the recipients and see the environment reap the benefits of each group’s work.
“The Partnerships Against Pests grants program is a fantastic example of how we can support community groups to take the lead in managing biosecurity challenges at the local level,” she said.
“By investing in projects that promote collaboration, education, and innovation, we’re not only addressing the impacts of invasive weeds and pest animals, but ensuring our solutions are driven by those who know their local area best.”
