More drivers are now able to access a digital licence via the myVicRoads app.
The digital licence system launched in May this year, but initially only allowed fully licenced drivers to activate the feature on their smartphone.
However, now the program has expanded to include both L plate and P plate drivers, allowing another 800,000 drivers to join the 1.2 million Victorians who have opted in to the new service.
While physical licences will continue to be issued for all Victorian drivers and can continue to be used for identification purposes, the digital licence provides drivers with a secondary, and optional, method of identification.
Changes to licences are reflected in real-time on the digital version too, with no need to print a notice of pending changes or wait for a sticker to arrive in the post.
Licence screening is also now compatible with the digital licences, allowing ease of access to venues that require technological identification.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne welcomed the timeliness of the expansion of the digital licence program.
“Approximately 800,000 L and P platers will be able to access their licence on their phone just in time for summer—making it easier for them to go about their lives—whether that’s driving around, going to a gig, or collecting a parcel,” she said.
“We’ve seen more than 1.2 million Victorians access their licence on their phones since we launched this technology in May, and I’m sure we’ll continue to see a strong take up from our younger drivers.”
To access the digital licence, simply download the myVicRoads app on IOS or Android and follow the prompts.
