A new council has been sworn in for the City of Whittlesea.
It is the first time in four years since the electorate has had a council, following the dismissal of its 2020 council by the Victorian Government in the same year.
Council adopted a new electoral structure for the 2024-28 term, shifting from a three-councillor, three ward system to 11 wards, with one councillor in each.
The newly elected councillors are:
Daniela Zinni, Bundoora Ward
David Lenberg, Epping Ward
Lawrie Cox, Ganbu Gulinj Ward
Aidan McLindon, Kirrip Ward
Stevan Kozmevski, Lalor Ward
Jarrod Lappin, Mernda Ward
Blair Colwell, Mill Park Ward
Christine Stow, North Ward
Deb Gunn, Painted Hills Ward
Martin Taylor, South Morang Ward
Nicholas Brooks, Thomastown Ward
City of Whittlesea Chief Executive Craig Lloyd welcomed the new council, and the return of elected representatives for the region.
“We are excited to welcome back locally elected officials, who will bring with them a real sense of grass roots community representation from right across our municipality,” he said.
“Serving as a councillor is a unique opportunity to represent the community, and we look forward to working with our new council to continue to deliver important services and build much-needed facilities and infrastructure for our growing community.”
The council’s first meeting will be held on November 19, during which the council will elect the mayor and deputy mayor.
