Doreen local Kylie Targett is preparing for the trek of a lifetime, in an inspiring act of compassion to raise funds for Victorian charity Pets Of The Homeless (POTH).
The not-for-profit organisation aims to keep pets and their owners facing homelessness together by providing essential pet supplies and services such as food and veterinary care.
Their ultimate mission, to ensure that the bond between pet and owner remains unbroken—even in the midst of crisis—is central to the organisation’s mission, and the reason behind its decade-long success.
In celebration of their 10th anniversary, in July next year, Ms Targett will join POTH founder and Chief Executive Yvonne Hong and fellow supporters on a fundraising trek through the rugged tropical terrain of Sumatra, a large Indonesian island west of Java and south of the Malay Peninsula.
The 10-day trip will see hikers partake in a myriad of activities, including reforesting to help counter the effects of illegal logging, which Ms Targett was excited to be involved in.
“The grand adventure of hiking through a jungle, with the animals and like-minded people, raising awareness of Pets Of The Homeless’ mission and celebrating their achievements, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to pushing my limits and achieving something I never thought possible.”
Ms Targett hoped to raise $3000 through her efforts and invited others to join her, either by donating or partaking in the once-in-a-lifetime trek 4430km from home.
“This is an amazing opportunity to raise awareness of Pets Of The Homeless and conservation around the world. What an opportunity to experience!” she said.
