Homicide Squad detectives have arrested and charged a 33-year-old man after a woman was killed in South Morang last week.
Charged with the murder of his partner, 35-year-old accountant Nikkita Azzopardi, whose body was found at her home last Tuesday morning, Joel Micallef was sentenced to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday but failed to appear due to health complications.
Mr Micallef had been in a relationship with Ms Azzopardi for two years before her sudden disappearance sparked concerns from her family, who made the gruesome discovery of her murder after breaking into her home.
Ms Azzopardi’s brother, Shaun Azzopardi, claimed Mr Micallef was inside at the time, and informed the family she was ‘sleeping’. He alleges they found several doors barricaded with chairs while searching for her.
Mr Micallef has since been remanded to reappear in court in March.
