At the weekend, the Gisborne and District Cricket Association (GDCA) men’s division played Saturday’s round three matches despite heavy rain the day before, and the Kookaburra Women’s League played round two matches on Sunday.

In the Johnstone Shield Seconds, Diggers Rest Bulla Village travelled just under an hour away to play Wallan, while Kilmore had a bye.

Wallan won the toss and elected to bat with Bradley Regan facing the first ball and Chase Fowler at the other end.

Regan had a long innings, while Fowler was caught out early in the fourth over.

Brenton Hanson teamed up with Regan until he was also caught out by a lucky fielder and on the last ball of the twelfth over, but not before making 24 runs and four 4s.

Jaxson Marshall was also caught out and left the pitch on a duck and yet another catch caught Andrew Bingham out on the first ball of the 26th over after he made 16 runs.

Next, Russell Whittingham joined forces with Regan for a short time before Regan was run out, but not before notching up 64 big runs including six handy 4s. Whittingham was stumped out after making 17 runs, yet in between he had a good partnership with James Farrell who went on to make 10 runs until he was bowled out on the last ball of the 40th over, leaving Nathan Reus on his own but not out, 10 for 153.

In the bowling, Hanson and Farrell each bowled eight overs, and Dave Curran and Fowler were close behind with around six overs each.

Farrell was rewarded on the last bowl of the 11th over with a leg before wicket call from the stumps umpire, which saw Bacchus Marsh’s Jayden Schwarze out after 16 runs. A clever bowl from Fowler helped Regan finally catch the opening batter out after he had made 44 big runs.

Digger’s Rest Bulla was a hard team to beat. Wallan had taken just four wickets and there were seven batters remaining when the game reached its conclusion and Diggers Rest finished four out for 154 runs.

On Sunday, Bacchus Marsh travelled to Wallan’s Greenhill Reserve for a very close match while Kilmore played Gisborne.

Once again, Wallan won the toss and elected Megan Farrell to bat first, along with Kia Montgomery at the other end.

Unfortunately, Montgomery went out for a duck after a leg before wicket call from the stump umpire.

Captain Felicity Vance was next in the batting and the partnership assisted Farrell to make 30 runs and five impressive 4s before she was bowled out on the first ball of the 14th over.

Vance also had a high scoring innings, making 22 runs and three mighty 4s after facing 52 balls before she was stumped out midway through the 17th over.

Kerrie Curran was next in the batting order, and after 13 runs and one four she was unfortunately run out by Emily Kennedy. The innings finished four out for 82 runs.

In the fielding, Wallan’s Terrie Haydon bowled three arduous overs with Charlotte Carletti, Montgomery, and Farrell also taking a turn against an unbreakable Bacchus Marsh batting combination who made 119 runs between them. The match finished in Bacchus Marsh’s favour when they reached 82 runs around the innings midway point, zero out for 83.

The Kilmore Women’s team played against Gisborne at the L.B Davern Reserve in Wandong for the first game of the season following last week’s forfeit. At the end of their innings, they were six for 93.

Gisborne had a great match with Brianna Woodburn retiring at 50 runs, and Macy Geisler and Ruby Watts not out, zero for 173.
