At the October meeting of the Combined Probus Club of Whittlesea, Diamond Valley Toy Library Vice President Annie Monkman shared insight about the crucial role toy libraries play in supporting families and promoting child development.
Toy Libraries Australia is the peak body for over 280 toy libraries across Australia, providing high-quality educational toys for children aged 6 months to 6 years. The libraries not only encourage play and creativity but also provides community connections among caregivers.
Ms Monkman brought along a collection of toys and explained how they are cleaned and stored between borrowers.
She highlighted that Diamond Valley Toy Library, with its 60 members, serves as a welcoming space where caregivers can meet, share experiences, and select toys.
Due to refurbishment works around the Nillumbik Community Centre, it was informed that their storage shed with additional toys has been unavailable for some months. Ms Monkman and friends are eagerly waiting access.
Ms Monkman concluded the presentation with a much thankful ending.
“Thank you so much again for inviting and hosting us. We really appreciate being able to spread the word and community of our and other toy libraries,” she said.
Teresa Carlin, on behalf of the members, thanked Ms Monkman for donating her time to tell the group an interesting story. A small token of appreciation and a round of applause brought the meeting to a close.
