Sunbury local Lisa Whitehead was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 39 years old.

Upon diagnosis, it was discovered that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes and she quickly underwent several rounds of treatment, including partaking in a breast cancer trial.

While Ms Whitehead, now 41, is in remission, the mother of three continues to fight the deadly disease, and this Saturday will be hosting a fundraiser in support of Breast Cancer Trials (BCT), a group of world-leading breast cancer doctors and researchers based in Australia and New Zealand with a commitment to exploring and finding better treatments for people affected by breast cancer.

In its 46 years of service, the organisation has conducted over 90 clinical trials and seen more than 17,000 patients participate in their quest to find a cure. Today, more than 980 researchers across 118 institutions continue their pursuit of a shared vision: that no more lives are cut short from breast cancer.

“I chose this fundraiser as I had breast cancer, was placed on a trial and I am now in remission,” Ms Whitehead said.

“Being in hospital through chemo, I saw a lot of people going through the same and/or worse. These trials help save lives and I want to do my part in helping save people from this horrible disease.”
