In light of Women’s Health and National Child Protection Week, the Review reached out to the North Central Mother’s Network, a passionate group of mothers striving to provide a safe and informative space for all, to bring to light the organisation’s current offerings for women and children alike.

Having recently been awarded a $2500 grant courtesy of Bendigo Bank, the Network will be using the funding to provide locals with access to two subsidised paediatric first aid training courses.

The courses, Mighty Bubs First Aid and TinyHearts Baby First Aid Training, have been reduced from a costly $119 and $90 respectively to an affordable $30 each.

TinyHearts Baby First Aid Training will be held later this month on September 21, 10am-11.30am and 11.45am-1.15pm, while Mighty Bubs First Aid will be held on November 16, 10am-1.30pm.

Vice President and Doula Sally Freeman stated the courses would offer invaluable and potentially lifesaving knowledge to families.

“First aid training is invaluable for first time parents and grandparents, especially for families living in rural areas where there are gaps in health services,” she said.

In addition to providing first aid training, the Network has recently joined forces with local businesswoman Lisa Knight of Helping Hands Pilates Studio to provide a weekly Mums with Bubs Pilates class, beginning mid-September.

“Lisa and I are keen to run this pilot with the hope that new mothers in the area can have a cuppa afterwards, and at a very grass roots level, potentially form a mother’s group while improving their health and wellbeing in the Pilates studio. Classes have been subsidised so women can afford this opportunity to participate,” Ms Freeman said.

Next month, the Network will also be hosting a Pregnancy and Post Birth Expo at Kilmore Trackside.

Scheduled for Sunday, October 19 from 9am-2pm, the free event will provide attendees access to workshops, talks, and more.

Ms Freeman stated the Network hoped to build off the success of last year’s expo.

“We are very grateful that Kilmore Trackside are supporting our initiative to deliver another expo. Local businesses, organisations, health services, and products will be showcased … as well as workshops all relevant to pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum phase,” she said.

New stallholders and volunteers are encouraged to get involved by contacting the Network via their Contact page online at www.ncmn.org.au/contact.
