Embracing the strong relationships in her life, local musician Tilly Bosworth, also known as Tilly Rose, has produced another brand-new single, Kindred Spirits.
Family, friends, and supporters gathered at Hogans Café and Bar Restaurant in Wallan last month for Tilly’s release party, where she performed the single with guest performers Clayton Hunter and close friend Maya O’Loughlin, whom she dedicated the song to.
The country-pop song is Tilly’s second release, following her first single Backup Dancers released last year when she was a Grade 6 student, and went through some challenging times with friends at school.
Writing from a happier place about friendship, in collaboration with close mentor Kaitlyn Thomas, Tilly said her second song was her favourite she had released so far.
“It’s pretty much about connections that you make with people over time, and like-minded that stay with you,” she said.
“I wrote it last winter, I was writing it about Maya because when I met her, I just felt a really good bond, and we’ve had that bond ever since.”
The two friends met at the Seymour Show in 2022, connecting over singing as both girls perform throughout the Mitchell Shire.
From that day, the girls became inseparable, attending each other’s performances, and relying on each other when life as a teenager became tough.
Tilly’s lyrics give insight to their friendship, showing how much they care for one another.
“You pick me up before I fall, side by side, getting through it all,” she sings in the chorus.
Whittlesea-based musician Paul Ray once again produced the country tune which features Ms Thomas in the backing vocals, who coincidentally has the song title tattooed on herself.
Just like Tilly’s friendship with Maya, the song was meant to be.
“I said [to Kaitlyn] ‘I really like this title ‘Kindred Sprits’, and she’s like ‘how funny is this, I have a tattoo of it’,” Tilly said.
Performing across the Shire and towns including Tamworth, Tilly has had a massive year in the music scene writing more songs, and will take on the Australian National Busking Championships in November after placing first in the Primary Category of the Kilmore Regional Busking.
Following her country inspirations in songwriting, Tilly said she was keen to make more music that connected with people.
“I’ve just been releasing songs from meaning, if people listen to it, and the meaning helps them in life, and have a connection to the song as well, [it makes me happy],” she said.
