Broadford is to get a new childcare centre following a decision at the March meeting of Mitchell Shire Council to grant a planning permit for the project at 19 High Street Broadford.
The proposal is to develop a single-storey childcare centre with associated signage, on-site car parking, landscaping, and external play areas. The centre will cater for a maximum of 92 children.
A total of 20 car spaces will be provided on site, including one disabled space within the parking area.
Speaking in support of the motion, Cr Annie Goble said that there was a need for additional childcare facilities in the community.
“It is in a good location being close to the Broadford train station. This will enable parents who use the train to get to work to leave their children at the centre just a short distance from where they travel,” Cr Goble said.
“Broadford is a growing town, so it is great to see this development happening,” she added.
The centre will comprise five classrooms, a staff room, planning room, reception, offices, toilets, kitchen and laundry.
An acoustic fence will run along the western and southern boundary abutting residential lots to minimise any potential noise.
Councillors were told that the proposed centre is considered to be consistent with fair and orderly planning.
The operating hours of the centre will be 6am to 7pm Monday to Friday.
